The new wave flutist New York residents are becoming more and more enamored by is Michele McGovern. Michele is a graduate from the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University with a bachelor and master’s degree in musical performance. As a classical and new wave flutist New York musician, Ms. McGovern studied with a number of extremely talented individuals, including Jean Berkenstock (former principal Lyric Opera Orchestra), Alexander Murray (former principal London Symphony), Donald Peck (former principal Chicago Symphony), Mary Stolper (principle Grant Park Symphony), and was also a piano student of Melody Lord. It was Melody that encouraged Michele to continue her musical career after college. As a new wave flutist New York musician, Ms. McGovern won 1st place in several competitions and garnered the coveted Farwell Award two times.

This new wave flutist New York music lovers will recognize as the Principle Flutist for the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra for over 15 years. She was also invited to be a soloist with a number of highly acclaimed orchestras and symphonies, including Mozart's D Major Concerto, Mozart's Andante, Vivaldi's Il Gardellino Concerto, Vivaldi's La Notte Concerto, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 for two flutes and violin, Lukas Foss' "For Toru", and the Saint Petersburg Camerata in St. Petersburg, Russia.

She also performed with The Nutcracker Ballet and Chicago Sinfonietta. Her biggest career moment happened when she and arranging partner Melody Lord where invited to play at New York City's Carnegie Hall in the Weil recital hall. It was at this engagement that she and Ms. Lord performed their 6 arrangements of Carmen for flute and piano. Michele and Melody worked together for over 12 years, until Ms. Lord’s untimely death. During their partnership they did an arrangement for flute and piano of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (Mvt. #1), which Michele, a new wave flutist New York musician, went on to use in her tribute video to Melody entitled “Moonlight.

Moonlight was a huge success and became an awarding-winning video. This started Michele off on a career as a new wave flutist New York sensation!  After the release of Moonlight, Ms. McGovern created four additional videos with another award-winning video Pavane. This rock version of a classical masterpiece has created a new audience for this new wave flutist New York resident. She has also introduced videos that are based on original compositions. Her original videos are classified as crossover classical music by the authorities in this sort of thing. The music takes on a traditional classical undertone, but it corporates the essence of jazz with Latino rhythms that make it very danceable and fun.
